The Dainfern Scuba Club welcomed the summer with a bang.

Hi all

So the year is now well underway and the holidays are over, just in time to welcome the cold weather to Johannesburg. So before we take a quick look at some of the upcoming events, let's take a look at the adventures we had in April.

The month started with a fantastic trip to Ponta D Ouro. The weather was great, the sea flat and best of all the vis was at least 30m on every dive. The Dainfern Scuba Club added some excitement with two incredible deep dives on the Pinnacle. Two Dives including a count of 6 Zambezi Sharks, a black tip and 2 Hammerheads. That wasn't all, our last dive included the sighting of a Bowmouth Guitar Shark - Take a look at the Gallery on the Website if you want to know what these strange sharks look like. As all Aprils' seem to be just holidays and more holidays, we took advantage of the final week of spare time to take a quick trip off to Tofo. While the vis was not always great, the diving was fantastic. Each of thedivers had a chance to dive with Manta Rays and snorkel with Whale Sharks. In fact, our best Whale Shark count was stopped at 60 because we ran out of fingers! We also had a chance to dive with the very rare Small Eyed Giant Stingray. Take a look at the photos in the gallery for some memories. A few intrepid divers braved a bustling Ponta D Ouro over the same weekend and were treated to some rough seas but good diving in a packed camp.

So looking forward, there are a number of exciting adventures happening in June and July.

Our next Open Water Course starts on the 20th of May, the Advanced Course the 22nd May and the Rescue Course the 27th of May. Those of you looking to get wet and not too afraid of the cold are all invited to join us at Miracle Waters on the 25th of May for a few dives or to complete the Navigation Specialty Course.

I would also like to invite everyone to join us for our Autumn Club Evening on the 21st of May from 6pm till late. We will be reviewing the photo's and videos from the April Trips, raffling off a deploy buoy in our Club Evening Raffle and just meeting all our diving friends for a drink and chat. So please bring you friends - even those that havn't seen the light and don't yet dive.

As for upcoming adventures, we have the Tiger Shark Trip to Aliwal Shoal in June (13 - 16) which is limited to a maximum of 20 divers. The Trip to Ponta D Ouro from the 27th of June to the 1st of July and a quick mid winter weekend to Sodwana from the 24th to the 27th of July. More details can be found on the website.

Our next Open Water Course will be announced at assembly and keep an eye on the notice boards round school!

Rescue Courses are also being introduced for the first time this year, giving learners the opportunity to explore safety in diving as well as identifying and dealing with possible hazards This is one of the most valuable courses a diver can complete and provides basic first aid and CPR training.
